Enduring Play: A Game Dev Podcast Season 2 Episode 10: Desirée Rincón [Show Notes]

S2 E10 Title: Semper Gumby: Flexible Project and Community Management with Desirée Rincón

Millions of players enjoy playing games like Call of Duty that simulate military life, but how does experience as a veteran translate to video game development? Program manager, community manager, and military veteran Desirée Rincón has a leadership style forged in the field: she understands innately that batons can’t get dropped, that communication must be explicit, and that misses can have real-world consequences. The resilience she developed in the field has served her not just in her prior role as Program Manager for Xbox 3rd Party Operations but in her role as Head of Gaming Partnerships and Brand for Gold Star Gamers, a 501(c)3 nonprofit connecting kids in need to therapeutic gaming experiences, her role as volunteer head of Creative for the Always Supporting Games Community, and in her own life transcending multiple disabilities to continue to engage with her love of the game. Oh, and you might have already met her service dog, Sydney. You know, the one with the lightsaber? This is a unique episode that covers everything from children processing grief in games to the staggering stress of managing games manufacturing to first-person gaming stories from Iraq and navigating life as an unemployed game developer while helping thousands of others get hired (why haven’t you hired Desiree yet?)

Featured in this Episode: Desirée Rincón [she/her]
Head of Gaming Partnerships, Gold Star Gamers

Head of Creative and Social Media Administrator, Always Supporting (the) Games Community

Desirée Rincón is a community leader focused on expanding access, opportunity, and impact within the games industry. She serves as Head of Gaming Partnerships and Outreach for Gold Star Gamers, a nonprofit that provides gaming PCs, mentorship, and a supportive community for children who have lost a military parent. She is also the Head of Creative for Always Supporting (the) Games Community (ASGC.gg), where she helps shape content, resources, and visibility for a rapidly growing network supporting people pursuing careers in games.

With over 15 years of leadership experience (from U.S. Army operations to management roles at Xbox) she brings a direct, practical perspective on how games are made, who gets access, and where the industry falls short. Her work centers on turning games into something more than entertainment: a pathway to connection, careers, and tangible support for those who need it most. A committed community builder, she mentors emerging talent, supports veterans, and champions greater access across the industry—usually with her service dog, Sydney, at her side. Outside of her work, she’s either organizing the next big initiative, training for long-distance races, or unapologetically enjoying good tacos.
