Cheryl Platz, the author of The Game Development Strategy Guide and a speaker at GDC 2026, was blown away by the support for her book at her GDC speaking debut. It was a dream to see her book featured at the bookstore – but beyond her dreams to see the book sold out by Thursday at the conference.
A highlight of the experience was getting to share a book signing immediately following her talk with her mentor, friend, fellow speaker, and foreword author Jesse Schell – whose book The Art of Game Design: A Book of Lenses has launched many game design careers. (Cheryl’s time in Jesse’s class predated the book, but she uses it now to help teach her own game development classes at Carnegie Mellon now that things have come full circle.)
A huge thank you to Dave and the staff at Break Point Books for their support in stocking The Game Development Strategy Guide this year, and to everyone who turned out to pick up a copy, to say hi at the signing, or who turned out for Cheryl’s microtalk! Here’s to hoping this won’t be the last GDC we cross paths.
Stay tuned for links to Cheryl’s “Localization Magic” microtalk when it goes live in the GDC Vault.
